Located just east of Glendive on a private ranch, you can play paleontologist while you hunt for and excavate dinosaurs. Experienced guides will show you what to look for and how to excavate fossils. Glendive Dinosaur & Fossil Museum and Dino Digs
The Glendive Dinosaur and Fossil Museum is a 20,000 square foot facility featuring more than 23 full-sized dinosaur and fossil exhibits plus a myriad of singular fossils. This museum is the largest dinosaur and fossil museum in the United States to present its fossils in the context of biblical history. Dinosaur Digs can also be booked through their website. Frontier Gateway Museum
Located next door to the Glendive Dinosaur & Fossil Museum, the Frontier Gateway Museum is the official Dawson County museum, located in the heart of the Hell Creek Formation which is rich in Cretaceous fossil remains. The museum displays a full-size skeleton cast of “Margie,” the Struthiomimus found near Glendive in the early 1990s. Other fossils are from Stegoceras, Triceratops, Thescelosaurus and hadrosaurs as well as aquatic and plant fossils. More information: https://frontiergatewaymuseum.org/

Makoshika State Park
Montana’s largest state park features badland formations and the fossil remains of Tyrannosaurus Rex, Triceratops, and other prehistoric life. You’ll find a visitor center at the park entrance with interpretive exhibits great for all ages. Fun and educational activities are scheduled throughout the year. Glendive has a rich history and an emerging art scene! Walking downtown will take you past beautiful architecture and the historic Bell Street Bridge which lights up each night. The Frontier Gateway Museum brings the past to life with exhibits, Native American history, the Lewis & Clark trail, and the establishment of Glendive. Yellowstone River

For outdoor enthusiasts, Glendive has miles of beautiful trails, fresh air, the winding Yellowstone, and many hidden gems for you to discover. Yellowstone River Adventures
Everything from kayaking to jet boating is available to experience! Along with exploring the Yellowstone River, enjoy the rich history of Lewis and Clark and take in the exceptional views of the river banks and eastern Montana wildlife. Fishing, Boating, Kayaking, and Floating on the Yellowstone River
The Yellowstone River is also a favorite for boating, kayaking, fishing, and floating. The third week of May brings the prehistoric paddlefish down the river and it is a great time to watch fisherman bring them in or try and snag one for yourself! Stop in at Ace Ranch & Farm or Runnings in Glendive for fishing licenses and tips on the best spots to catch fish! River access points include the boat ramp located off of Glendive Boat Ramp and the Black Bridge Ramp, Stipek, and Intake Dam & Campground. Glendive Boat Ramp is located down a gravel road - turn at 503 N River Ave to access. Stipek is located off I-94, Exit 213 North, off at Glendive, 8 miles northeast on Hwy 16, 1 mile east on county road. Intake Dam & Campground is located off exit 213 off I-94 at Glendive, 16 miles northeast on Hwy 16, 2 miles east on County Road. Black Bridge is excellent for off-shore fishing but not loading and unloading a boat. To get to Black Bridge, take West Bell Street Toward river, entrance is adjacent to the historic Bell Street Bridge. Floating in tubes & kayaking the Yellowstone River is not recommended until mid-late July as the currents are strong until then. Always wear a life jacket and use your best judgment. There are sand bars and sunken trees along the river to watch out for as well. Kayaks can be rented at Makoshika Wellness located at 111 W. Agate Hunting
Agate hunting is a favorite among anyone who walks along the Yellowstone River! To find agate rocks on the Yellowstone River, look for gravel bars along the active river channel during low water levels in early spring or late fall. Look for potato-shaped or irregular rocks that appear translucent when held up to sunlight or rinsed in water. If you're new to rockhounding, consider taking a guided tour with a local outfitter like Yellowstone River Adventures in Glendive for a customized agate and fossil boat tour. Short Pine OHV
Off-road enthusiasts are in awe of this hidden gem! Located approximately 7 miles south of Glendive on Road 335 (aka Marsh Road), Short Pine OHV Area is a 2,800 acres recreation area for motorcycles, four wheelers, four-wheel drive trucks and sport-utility vehicles. The vast array of trails crisscrossing the landscape gives motorists the option of an easy ride or a steep challenge. There’s something for every skill level out there. All vehicles must be legally registered, either with a license plate or off-road sticker and have an unmodified spark arrestor. Makoshika State Park

The name Makoshika (Ma-ko'-shi-ka) is a variant spelling of a Lakota phrase meaning 'bad land' or 'bad earth'. Today, as Montana's largest state park, the badlands of Makoshika are set aside for visitors to see and enjoy. Included within the park are scenic drives, 11 dedicated hiking trails, 28 camping sites, a group picnic area, and an outdoor amphitheater. Discover Events and Activities in Glendive!

There are many fun activities to enjoy throughout Glendive during your stay! If you have kids who need to burn off some energy, stop at one of our 13 parks or challenge each other to disc golf at Makoshika! From swimming to tennis to skating and bowling, Glendive provides friendly access to fun activities throughout town while you are visiting.

Swimming
Hollecker Lake is a small lake with a beach and picnic areas located just 1 mile north of Glendive on Highway 16 (exit 213 from the interstate). Paddleboarding, kayaking, canoeing, floating, fishing, and swimming are favorites at this location! Sunsets and stargazing are also big favorites here. If the Aurora Borealis is on display, this is a great location to see it!

Glendive has a public pool and a splash park to cool off in the summer months as well! The public pool is located at Lloyd Square Park, 1028 N Meade Ave. The splash park is located in Whipkey Park, 503 E Raymond St.
